# Edit instances of a module class

The DeltaV Instances table: every instance of a module class with the parameters any instance overrides, edited in place or set across ticked rows as one change.

**Verification state:** modelled. On the real DeltaV 14.5.1 export: 43 classes with 291 instances; the largest table (48 instances, 10 columns) read in about 0.8 s; setting one column in every instance changed 10 values and left the text's length unchanged. **Whether DeltaV imports an export edited here is not known.** Each edit reads the whole export again (about 0.8 s on 25 MB, on the window's main thread). Not seen in the running Editor; not on Windows.

This is the bulk edit engineers otherwise do with DeltaV's Excel add-in or a User Defined export.

## Open a class's instances

Run **Edit Instances of a Module Class** (or **Edit Instances** on a module class in the DeltaV Plant view) and pick a class; the pick shows each class's instance count.

The **DeltaV Instances** tab shows one row per instance and one column per parameter any instance overrides, in the class's order. Values the instance takes from its class are shown in italics with "(class)". A filter narrows the rows.

## Edit

- **One cell:** edit a constant or reference in place. A named set state is chosen from the states the export's enumeration set lists as selectable.
- **A column:** tick rows, pick a column, type a value and press **Set in N ticked**, or set it in every row shown.

The whole set is one change and one Undo. A note counts the rows that take the value from the class, which are left as they are. Each change is made on the export as the text editor holds it, logged to **Output > DCS**, and not saved by the module.

## What is refused

- A value of the wrong form: a number stays a number, T or F stays T or F.
- A named set state not in its set, or a set the export does not define. (On the real export, every named set override uses a set the export does not define, so none was editable there.)
- Values of another form, such as an alarm; use [Alarms](https://neuralinverse.com/docs/modules/dcs/alarms/).
- Making a value an instance takes from its class an override. This would add a statement to the export, and whether DeltaV imports a statement written here is not known.
