# Energy reference and troubleshooting

Settings, commands, editors and views, file formats, vendor tools and protocols of the Energy module with their verification state, and fixes for common problems.

## Settings

Under **Neural Inverse Energy** in Settings.

| Setting | Type, default | Scope | Purpose |
|---|---|---|---|
| `neuralInverse.energy.enabled` | boolean, `false` | Window | Turns the Energy environment on. Set it with **Neural Inverse: Enable Energy Environment** |
| `neuralInverse.energy.sclSchemaFolder` | string, empty | Machine | The folder with your copy of the IEC 61850-6 SCL schema (`SCL.xsd` and its includes), one edition or one subfolder per edition. Empty turns schema validation off. Set it with **Set IEC 61850 Schema Folder...** |
| `neuralInverse.energy.paths.pcm600Cmd` | string, empty | Machine | `PCM600Cmd.exe` of PCM600 2.11 or later, or its folder. Empty uses the newest PCM600 found |
| `neuralInverse.energy.vendorToolExecutables` | object, `{}` | Machine | The program each **Open in** command starts, by tool (`pcm600`, `digsi5`, `selQuickSet`, `selArchitect`, `helinksSts`, `iedScout`). Without an entry, the program the tool's installer registered is used, or you are asked once |
| `neuralInverse.energy.paths.dumpcap` | string, empty | Machine | Wireshark's `dumpcap` (or `tshark`), or its folder. Empty looks on PATH and in Wireshark's install folder |
| `neuralInverse.energy.records.allowDelete` | boolean, `false` | | Offers **Delete...** for files of an IED online. Each delete still asks |

## Protocols

## Limits

| Limit | Value |
|---|---|
| SCL file size | 64 MB; larger files are refused |
| Capture file size | 512 MB; larger files are refused |
| Live capture | Stops by itself at 1 GB |
| Lost connection | Detected after 10 s without traffic and 10 s without an answer |
| ResvTms written on Enable of a buffered block | 60 s |
| Agent tool answers | Lists capped at 200 entries, answers at 32,000 characters |

## Troubleshooting

| Symptom | What to do |
|---|---|
| No Energy views or title bar items | Check the workspace is trusted and `neuralInverse.energy.enabled` is on |
| Problems from "IEC 61850 check" on a vendor file | These are the Editor's checks. Compare with your configurator's check, and report the file and tool version if it disagrees |
| "Not validated against the IEC schema" on a file | The schema folder lacks the edition the file declares. Add that edition's schema files |
| No "IEC 61850 schema" entries at all | `neuralInverse.energy.sclSchemaFolder` is empty, or the folder does not hold `SCL.xsd`. Check the Energy output |
| A confRev warning you do not agree with | The rule is the module's reading of IEC 61850-7-2, not checked against the standard's text. Follow your configurator |
| An edit does not apply to a file | The module's edits need a file with consistent line endings. Make them consistent and try again |
| Export Settings Report refuses | The file has unsaved changes. Save first |
| A CID export warns of a missing address | The IED subscribes to a control block whose address the SCD lacks. Fix the Communication section |
| "IED ... is full for GOOSE control blocks" | The IED's `Services` allow no more. Remove one, or use another IED |
| An IED is not offered by Connect to IED Online... | Only IEDs with an IP address in their `ConnectedAP` are offered. Add the address to the SCL file |
| A TLS connection is refused | Read the message: it names the failing check and the certificate presented. See [MMS over TLS and credentials](https://neuralinverse.com/docs/modules/energy/tls/) |
| "denied access to ..." on a read or write | The IED's role-based access refused it. Ask the IED's security administrator for the role |
| "Connection lost: ..." | Check the network, then press **Reconnect**; enabled reports are enabled again |
| "Your account may not capture on ..." | Ask IT for capture rights: the wireshark group on Linux, or Npcap with capture allowed for non-administrators on Windows |
| Live monitor shows nothing | Choose the interface on the mirror port; the first non-loopback interface is chosen by default |
| COMTRADE channel names look wrong | Use the **Text** button to choose the record's code page |
| Detect Vendor Tools finds nothing | Detection runs on Windows only |
| An agent says there is no tool for loading a CID | Loading a CID is done in the relay vendor's tool |

## Known limits

- Nothing has run on Windows, against a relay, or against a relay vendor tool or test set.
- Settings kept only in vendor projects are not read or written.
- The module has not been run on a real export of 100 or more IEDs; generated 117-IED stations were measured.
- Reading SCL files and analysing captures run on the window's main thread.
- Functions the module does not cover yet are on [What's next](https://neuralinverse.com/docs/modules/energy/whats-next/).
