State: modelled. The download and the PLCSIM Advanced instance commands are built in the engineering host (tested on Linux over an object tree with the documented member names) and in the Editor (tested on Linux through the real client and services against a model of the engineering host's requests). Nothing has run against TIA Portal, PLCSIM Advanced or a CPU. Bench only.
Download commands
| Command | Target |
|---|---|
| Download to S7-1500... | A CPU through any PG/PC interface but PLCSIM |
| Download to PLCSIM Advanced... | The simulated CPU of a PLCSIM Advanced instance, through the PG/PC interface PLCSIM |
No key runs either.
Download
- Run the command and pick the
.apNNproject, the CPU and the connection, and what is sent: Software (only changes) or Hardware and software. The engineering host reads the CPUs of the open project and the connections their download providers offer, offline, in the project's resident TIA Portal session. The pick shows each CPU with the target interface, the PG/PC interface of this computer with its number and the connection mode. - Read the first confirmation: the CPU by the path of its device items, the connection, that the CPU's state is not read, what is sent, the project file with its modification stamp, that nothing TIA Portal may ask is accepted, what changes and that it is logged with the operating system's user name.
- TIA Portal may ask before a download to stop the CPU, overwrite the system data, reinitialise data blocks or delete everything on the module. The engineering host stops the download at the first such question the confirmation does not name, so nothing is transferred.
- A second dialog, "Accept what TIA Portal asks and download ...?", names each consequence on its own line, in TIA Portal's terms and plain words (
stop the CPU (stopModules)). Only if you accept it is a download sent that accepts exactly those consequences. Declining downloads nothing. If TIA Portal then asks for a further consequence, the download stops again and the dialog names one more.
Rules the download always keeps:
- A password the CPU asks for is never given, and a question the engineering host does not know is never answered: either stops the download with nothing downloaded.
- The CPU is never started by a download. Asked afterwards, the answer is no and the CPU stays as the download left it.
- Before sending, the Editor checks in the project's queue that the session is the one that read the CPUs, the project file is unchanged, and the project still offers the confirmed CPU and connection. The engineering host refuses a confirmation for another session.
- No agent can accept a consequence: only you, in the modal dialog.
The outcome: succeeded when TIA Portal reports success, information or warning (with what was accepted, what was asked after and not accepted, and TIA Portal's messages); did not run for a failure that says nothing was sent; not known whether the CPU changed for a download TIA Portal reports as an error, a timeout, a crash or a cancellation after sending. Each attempt is in the PLC log with the CPU, connection, project, what was sent, the consequences accepted, who confirmed and the outcome.
PLCSIM Advanced instances
| Command | What it does |
|---|---|
| Register PLCSIM Advanced Instance... | Registers a new instance with a name and a CPU type (CPU1500_Unspecified offered) |
| Power On PLCSIM Advanced Instance... | Powers the instance on |
| Power Off PLCSIM Advanced Instance... | Powers it off |
| Unregister PLCSIM Advanced Instance... | Unregisters it; only an instance that is off |
- Pick the Runtime API version when several are installed, then the instance among those the Runtime Manager lists with their CPU type and state (for a registration, a new name and the CPU type).
- Read the confirmation: the instance, its CPU type, the Runtime Manager (for example
PLCSIM Advanced 6.0 on this computer), the instance's state read just now, what changes, and that the Runtime Manager takes commands without authentication: any program that reaches it can change its instances. - Confirm. Each command reads the instance again just before sending and refuses, sending nothing, when it is no longer as shown.
A command already known to be wrong is refused before the dialog: a power on of an instance that is on, a power off of one that is off, an unregister of one that is on, a name already registered. The outcome names the instance and what the Runtime Manager read back. The engineering host drives only the Runtime Manager of its own computer and never changes its network mode.
Not verified
- Everything against TIA Portal, PLCSIM Advanced and a CPU, in particular what TIA Portal does when the engineering host stops a download in its callback (reported as not known if TIA Portal does not end with that stop).
- The PLCSIM Advanced registry key and folder layout, and the error codes and states of V7 and V8.
